Furniture store Habitation opens in Louisville
Plans rollout in other markets next year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Habitation, a contemporary home furnishings specialty store, has opened here on Summit Plaza Drive and plans a rollout of more stores in other markets next year.The store offers in-stock as well custom-order goods in transitional and contemporary styles that range from designs influenced by American Arts and Crafts to the latest European trends, the company said in a news release.
It also has a Habitation Green Furniture Collection featuring one-of-a-kind furniture made from hardwoods from Forest Stewardship Council-certified forests and eco-friendly bamboo. Habitation also touts its store design as eco-friendly, featuring bamboo floors, paints with no volatile organic compounds, and recycled lighting.
In the release, the company said it plans to open stores "in select U.S. markets in 2009."
"Louisville is a great environment for a new business because of the diversity of the consumer, as well as their consistent spending patterns within our category," said Habitation co-founder David Mount. "By showcasing a product mix that covers all price points, with an emphasis on the affordable, we're creating a unique niche for the home furnishings sector that will address the shopping habits and needs of the modern consumer."
The store has been open less than a month and has been well-received by consumers, the company said, adding that sales for the post-Thanksgiving weekend exceeded expectations.
