CHINO, Calif. —Carlos Morales III has been named vice president of operations at Arbek Furniture. He has been with the company for 12 years.
In his new position, Morales will update Arbek communications systems, coordinate re-branding efforts and expand the import program, in addition to overseeing daily operations.
ASID
WASHINGTON , D.C. — The American Society of Interior Designers has named Barbara A. Nugent, FASID, the Society's 27th president.
Nugent has been involved with the ASID at both the national and local level. She has held the position of chair of ASID marketing and communications council; national appointments council member; national strategic mapping planning committee member; national disciplinary hearing committee member and president of the Texas chapter.
She is vice president of interior design at Corgan Associates in Dallas.
Exel Direct
COLUMBUS , Ohio — Exel Direct has hired two new employees for its business development management team.
Jim O'Farrell has been named director of business development. He has more than 12 years of business development and client relations experience.
Before joining Exel Direct, he held management positions at FedEx, Fritz Companies, Coughlin Logistics, Danzas Corp. and UPS.
Jeff Gruman has been named director of business development. He is a 23 year industry veteran, most recently as director of marketing for Cory Home Delivery Service.
La-Z-Boy
MONROE , Mich. —Philip Davis has been named corporate vice president of human resources at La-Z-Boy. In this position, Davis will be responsible for designing and implementing human resource initiatives for the company. He will report to Gerald L. Kiser, La-Z-Boy's chief executive officer.
Davis began his career with General Electric, holding a variety of human resource positions in both manufacturing and sales areas. After 16 years at GE, he became vice president of personnel and organization for E.J. Brach Corp. Most recently, he was vice president of human resources for PSINet Consulting Solutions.

LINWOOD, Pa. —John C. Culver has been elected to the board of directors of Foamex International.
Since 1981, he has been a senior partner at Arent Fox law firm in Washington, D.C. From 1965 to 1975, he represented Iowa in the United States House of Representatives. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1974.
