Montreal — Michel Deveault has been re-elected to a second term as president of the Quebec Furniture Manufacturers Assn.
He also is president of Canadian casual dining manufacturer Canadel Furniture of Louiseville, Quebec.
Traditionally, QFMA presidents serve a two-year term. However, Deveault anticipates he will serve for only a year, giving him time to complete several ongoing projects, including negotiations with the Ontario Furniture Manufacturers Assn. and Furniture West on the future of Canada's three regional factory groups.
"The priority is the negotiations with OFMA and Furniture West," he said. "And the board felt I should be the one to finish that work."
Relations between the three have improved over the past year, Deveault said, noting that progress has been made on a number of fronts, including the provision of credit information services to the industry.
He said the challenge for the associations is not to find new ways to divide current revenues. "We have to work to find ways to create new revenues," he said.
"We are consulting with our members, asking them what they want from the association," Deveault said, adding the strategic planning process is in its early stages and results won't be known until sometime next year.
Also elected to the QFMA's board of directors were Yves Caron, Trica; Richard Darveau, Bermex; Pat Gervais, Dinec; Émile Hudon, Shermag; Yves Jean, Morigeau Lépine; Guy Lacasse, Groupe Lacasse; Guy Patenaude, Jaymar; Daniel Pelletier, Artopex Plus; and Réjean Poitras, Amisco.
Normand Ricard of Sommex and Spring Air Canada remains on the board as past president of the association.
