Furndex a B2B casualty?

High Point — Business-to-business Internet services company Furndex apparently has closed.
Phone lines for the company, including voice, fax and toll-free long-distance numbers, have been disabled. Messages left on cell phones for Jimmy Redmond, founder and chief executive officer, and Bill Utley, national sales manager, were not returned.
The company had not filed for bankruptcy protection at press time.
Furndex was an applications service provider promising to help furniture manufacturers and suppliers lower costs with scalable, standards-based systems and software.
In February, the company partnered with i2, a supplier of supply chain software solutions. Based here, Furndex had about 12 employees at its peak.
Backers included Redleaf, Tech Vest Ventures and Atlas Commerce, a Malvern, Pa.-based software company.
Furndex is only the latest B2B in furniture to experience difficulties. Armadillo, Homepoint.com and RetailMetro also failed to sell enough of the industry on an Internet-based trade exchange.
In the past few months, Furndex had dramatically scaled back expenses, as Rightlinx announced last month it was doing.
