By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 12, 2001
Durham, Ontario — Orville Mead will retire as chief executive officer of solid-wood bedroom maker Durham Furniture on Jan. 1. He will remain chairman of the board.
Derek Ashton, who was named president earlier this year, will add the CEO's responsibilities to his duties.
"Durham Furniture has a very strong team and I am sure it will continue to prosper," Mead said, citing past and current health problems as the reason for his departure.
In January, Mead was awarded the first Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ontario Furniture Manufacturers Assn. in recognition of his contributions to the industry over a career than has spanned 43 years. He is a former president of both the OFMA and the Canadian Council of Furniture Manufacturers.
