Most stick to market plans
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, October 15, 2001
HIGH POINT — Only 9% of retailers who responded to a Furniture/Today survey plan to shorten their stays at the October market, and three-quarters said they would bring the same number of buyers.
Most respondents, 61%, said they plan to stick with the same price points, and 39% will be looking to make some changes. Of the latter, about three-fifths are looking to add some lower price points.
The responses came from 112 retailers who answered an informal e-mail survey conducted Sept. 27-Oct. 8.
Topping their shopping lists for market are bedroom, occasional tables and stationary upholstery. Middle price points are most in demand.
And the retailers said they plan to see a median of 30 vendors while they're in High Point, with the median stay planned for five days. Almost a third will build in time to seek out new vendors, and another quarter said they'll visit new vendors as time permits or if something catches their eye.
Most retailers agree the growth of the High Point market makes it harder to shop, but are ambivalent about whether having more product in one place makes the extra effort worthwhile.
