Stickley to use HP showroom as store

HIGH POINT — High-end case goods and upholstery maker Stickley Furniture plans to open its seventh dedicated store next month — its market showroom here.
Beginning Nov. 7, the showroom will be open to the public Monday through Saturday except during the April and October furniture markets. The store will sell only to North Carolina residents, and will not ship out of state.
Aminy Audi, Stickley co-owner and executive vice president, said the company wants to give local residents the opportunity to buy its furniture. Stickley's only other North Carolina dealer is in Charlotte, about 80 miles away.
"We don't want to undercut our overall dealer base with the pricing we plan for the High Point store," said Alfred Audi, co-owner and president. Stickley plans to offer discounts in High Point below what its other stores can offer, as much as 40% off.
The showroom at 225 North Elm St. is a two-story brick building with 28,000 square feet of space.
This will be the second Stickley store to open in this year's second half. A White Plains, N.Y., store opened in August. Until then, all company stores were near headquarters in Manlius, N.Y., southeast of Syracuse.
The Manlius store is moving out of the plant. Stickley will begin to occupy the new store, about three miles away in Fayetteville, in January. At 78,000 square feet, it will have much more space than the 35,000-square-foot factory store, enough to show the full Stickley line.
Moving the store out of the plant also will give the case goods operation room to expand. The upholstery side already has expanded after moving from High Point to a larger facility in nearby Archdale last year.
