Market Authority names advisory board

HIGH POINT — HIGH POINT — Four furniture retailers are among the 11 people named to a new advisory panel formed by the International Home Furnishings Market Authority.
The panel, chaired by Steve DeHaan, executive director of the National Home Furnishings Assn., will work on a wide range of issues, including parking and price-gouging.
"This is a great board. I really look forward to getting their input," said Market Authority Chairman Steve Kincaid.
Retail members are Dave Cavitt of Furniture Enterprises of Alaska, Anchorage; Howard Haimsohn of Lawrance Contemporary Home Furnishings, San Diego; Tony Moretti of Jordan's Furniture, Avon, Mass.; and Clarence Smith of Havertys, Atlanta. Cavitt also is president of NHFA.
The only other panel member who works in the furniture industry is Paula Shoemaker, a veteran sales representative who lives in Dayton, Ohio.
Others appointed to the advisory panel were Gerald Hyatt, an executive at the High Point Country Club; Ted Johnson, director of the Piedmont Triad International Airport; Clif Taylor, manager of the Radisson Hotel in High Point; Walter Winn, an executive with North State Telephone Co.; and Mo Milani, manager of the Sheraton Greensboro Hotel.
At its monthly meeting last week, the authority also:
-
Approved a logo that will soon appear on business cards, stationery and other market-related signage.
-
Accepted the resignation of board member Phil Phillips, nominated by President Bush to be ambassador to Barbados.
-
Welcomed new board member Joanna Easter, an executive with the Showplace building.
