GREEN ISLAND, N.Y. — GREEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Sealy has opened a new $25 million manufacturing plant and distribution center here as it bids to expand its business in the region.
"The 257,000-square-foot Green Island plant will be one of Sealy's largest domestic facilities and services the company's largest market," said Dave McIlquham, Sealy president and CEO.
Sealy outgrew its former plant in nearby Colonie and needed a larger facility to produce beds for more than 500 retailers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Vermont.
"This is an important plant to Sealy and we are committed to growing our presence here," McIlquham said. "We intend to add 135 more jobs over the next 18 months, and there is room for future expansion of the physical space. Our market share in the Albany/Schenectady region is one of the highest in the country, and we intend to grow it further."
Sealy has already added 115 new jobs at the Green Island plant. Local and state officials in New York took part in the grand opening facilities.
