High Point Showroom Assn. names 1st board

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, February 2, 2004

HIGH POINT — The High Point Showroom Assn. has named its first board of directors, with 11 voting members and three liaison members representing the local business community.

Voting members include Jeanne Glenn, showroom manager for Karges Furniture, who serves as 2004 HPSA president. Ginny Ratchford, showroom manager for Chelsea House, is vice president and is in line to be president in 2005.

Other voting members are Bill Cain, president of Chelsea House; Emilie Rogers, an officer of Brestl/Royal Patina; Aaron Clinard, local attorney and chair of the High Point Downtown Improvement Committee; Latimer Alexander, High Point city councilman and president of Latimer B. Alexander Inc.; Mike Sapp, president of Swaim; Randall Tysinger, owner of Randall Tysinger Antiques; Rod Lambeth, owner and president of Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth Furniture; Tim McGee, director of leasing for Merchandise Mart Properties Inc.; and Toby Morrison, owner of The Design Studio.

Liaison members are Judy Mendenhall, president of the High Point International Home Furnishings Market Authority; Clif Taylor, general manager of the Radisson Hotel in High Point; and Ron Stephens, vice president and director of sales and marketing of the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Board members will serve two-year terms. The first formal meeting was in January, and meetings will be held monthly except in April, July and October.

One of HPSA's key goals is to make High Point a year-round design center by increasing awareness of High Point among interior designers, and opening more showroom to interior designers and their clients between furniture markets.

The board's initial tasks will be to write a mission statement, develop bylaws, determine membership requirements, and establish membership levels and dues structure.

It also hopes to hire a part-time administrator.

Another major goal is to create a year-round fabric showroom in High Point, securing real estate and tenants for that facility.
