IFSA celebrating 75th anniversary
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 15, 2004
High Point — High Point— For a 75-year-old, the International Furniture Suppliers Assn. has a busy year planned.
Founded in 1929 as the National Wholesale Furniture Assn., the trade group of wholesale distributors, importers, manufacturers and their service providers will celebrate its anniversary all year with several events and a membership drive with a charitable tie-in.
For each new member joining the IFSA from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, the association will give $75 to the Home Furnishings Chapter of the City of Hope. The City of Hope, a Los Angeles-based medical center, conducts research and treatment on life-threatening illnesses such as cancer and diabetes.
Jim Harwell of Harwell Distributing, Chino, Calif., a past president of IFSA, was saluted at a City of Hope fundraiser last June for his lifetime achievements and contributions to the industry. Harwell, a cancer survivor, said he is honored that the City of Hope and IFSA have joined forces this year.
On April 20, IFSA will partner with the National Home Furnishings Assn. to co-host an evening social event at the High Point market. IFSA will co-host an All-Industry Conference May 15-17 in Scottsdale, Ariz. Some 600 furniture professionals are expected to attend the event, also hosted by the NHFA, the Western Home Furnishings Assn. and the California Furniture Manufacturers Assn.
Information on IFSA events and an overview of the group's 75-year history can be found on the organization's Web site, www.ifsa-info.com.
