RICHMOND, Va. — Upper-end German contemporary upholstery maker Design Intershop/
Bruehl North America has launched a Web site for its North American customers.
The site, www.bruehlus.com, features the entire Bruehl line of 577 sofas, chairs and sofa-sleepers, available in 255 fabrics and leathers, along with occasional tables.
Although consumers can place orders on the site, the company doesn't expect that to happen too often.
"Most people don't buy upholstery over the Web, so it's certainly not a threat to our retailers," said Claire Kelley, in sales and marketing for Bruehl. "It's mostly a tool to create a name for the line in the United States and Canada."
Retailers can use the site to for stock availability and other information, she said, adding that prices are suggested retails and the site won't offer discounts.
Bruehl has been selling in North America for three years and has about 25 accounts. Kelley said the company hopes eventually to have dealers in all metropolitan areas. The company shows at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York.
