ROBBINSVILLE, N.C. — ROBBINSVILLE, N.C. — Workers at Stanley Furniture's case goods plant here set an industry record recently by working nearly 3.7 million hours — about three-and-a-half years — without a lost-time accident. The previous record was 3.645 million hours.
To celebrate the milestone, each of the plant's 565 employees was given a certificate by Andy Counts, CEO of the American Furniture Manufacturers Assn., and was treated to a catered luncheon.
"This is a tribute to such a dedicated group of associates," said Jeff Scheffer, Stanley president and CEO. "I can't express how grateful I am to each and every associate at Stanley Furniture's Robbinsville plant who helped achieve this extraordinary safety record. Safety is Stanley Furniture's No. 1 priority, and it's clear that everyone at Robbinsville is playing an active role in achieving that goal."
Bob Chapman, Stanley vice president of manufacturing, said a plant safety committee of employees plays a big role in its excellent safety record.
"This achievement is truly remarkable," Chapman said. "I've worked in this industry for nearly 40 years and have never observed this level of commitment to safety."
