High Point — The Furniture Discovery Center and High Point University's home furnishings program were the recipients of proceeds from The Carolinas Chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Assn.'s ninth annual benefit sale of furniture and accessories
The donations were presented at an October market event. This year's sale grossed more than $30,000
"We are grateful for the continuing support of companies, retailers and photography studios who make these awards possible through their generous donations of products and samples each year," said Susan Connor, Carolinas Chapter president.
Dawn Brinson and Joanne Hoover, co-chairs of this year's sale, presented a check for $10,000 to Richard Bennington, head of HPU's home furnishings program, in memory of Norman Hekler, a well-known furniture designer who died this year. The donation is earmarked for HPU's new home furnishings building, now under construction.
Kimberley Wray, vice president of the Furniture Discovery Center board, received a check for $8,000. The donation was given in memory of Thayer Coggin, Milo Baughman and Jake Froelich, industry veterans who died this year.
The Carolinas Chapter also bestowed four student scholarships. Dr. Katherine Warsco accepted two scholarships for students majoring in interior design at East Carolina University. Bronwen Keller, an interior design major at Salem College, received another scholarship, and Matthew Dunay, a North Carolina State University junior majoring in industrial design, received the Ruth Clark Scholarship.
