Commerce, Calif. — The Assn. of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers has named the winners of its 2003–04 scholarship program.
Four new scholarships were awarded this year, bringing to 12 the number of students currently receiving AWFS scholarships. The program is open to children of the employees of AWFS member companies.
AWFS presents the Merit Scholarship, based on a combination of scholastic achievement, community and school involvement, and the Maury Ostrove Scholarship, based on a combination of financial need and merit. Applicants are ranked by a compilation of SAT/ACT scores, grades, community and extracurricular activities, and responses to interview questions. Winners are selected in a blind review process conducted by the scholarship committee.
Each student was awarded $3,000 for the current academic year. Students are eligible for up to four years of support, provided the recipients continue to meet all the scholarship criteria.
