Frank O'Connor, retired rep

High Point — Frank O'Connor, retired longtime sales representative and director of product development for Williams Furniture Co., has died here. He was 82.

O'Connor began his career at Macy's Department Store at Harold Square in New York in 1939. He returned to Macy's after service in World War II, then in 1949 became a sales rep for Williams in the New York/New Jersey region.

He was Williams' top-producing rep for 35 of his 37 years with the company, and also directed product development for much of his career. In the latter capacity, he produced several notable groups, including Village Square.

O'Connor retired in 1986 and later moved to High Point to be near family. He received the Brotherhood Award from the National Confraternity of Christians and Jews in 1968, and the 2002 Howard Liverwright Man of the Year award from the New Jersey Metropolitan Furniture Assn., of which he was a member for many years.

His two sons work in the furniture industry — Kevin O'Connor, president of case goods importer Legacy Classic, and Dennis O'Connor, a sales associate at Thomasville Furniture Gallery in Paramus, N.J. Grandson Sean O'Connor works for Rowe Furniture, and granddaughter Colleen O'Connor is at Legacy Classic.

Other survivors include his wife of 59 years, Margaret, another granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pennybyrn at Maryfield, 1315 Greensboro Road, High Point, N.C. 27260.
