How the list was compiled
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, June 2, 2003
This exclusive survey ranks the top fabric mills sourced by furniture manufacturers in the United States. Ranking estimates are based on 2002 shipments of interior fabric.
Figures include all fabrics for interior furnishings, not just upholstery, for residential and/or contract use, including exports. Carpet revenues, automotive revenues and commission finishing revenues are excluded.
To qualify, each company must be a fabric mill and must sell upholstery fabrics directly to U.S. residential furniture manufacturers. Fabric converters and jobbers are excluded. Burlington Inds. does not make the ranking this year since it no longer ships residential upholstery fabrics.
All shipments, with the exception of that supplied by publicly held companies that break out line-of-business sales for interior fabrics, are Furniture/Today market research estimates. Shipment estimates are based on 12 months ended Dec. 31, 2002, unless otherwise indicated.
The ranking was compiled by Fabric Editor Susan Andrews, Director of Market Research Kay Anderson and Research Specialist Dana French.
