Las Vegas — Lane Home Furnishings and Flexsteel Inds. have announced they will lease showrooms in the planned World Market Center here.
The manufacturers and importers are the latest of several majors that have said they're coming to Las Vegas, where groundbreaking is set March 21 on the 1.3 million-square-foot first phase of a home furnishings market complex. The first market is expected to take place sometime in 2004 or 2005.
"We feel that the Las Vegas World Market Center is an ideal venue that will attract a large audience, in part because of the attraction of the city," said Tom Foy, Lane president and chief executive officer. "We're excited about the complex and believe it will develop into a viable and well-attended furniture market."
Lane is a subsidiary of Furniture Brands International, as is Broyhill, which earlier announced it would show in the WMC. Klaussner also recently announced it would show in Las Vegas.
Lane and Flexsteel also show in other market centers, including San Francisco. Lane officials didn't say whether the Las Vegas lease would affect the company's San Francisco occupancy. Keith Feuerhaken, Flexsteel vice president of sales, said, "At this point we're supporting both markets. ... We're going to let this play out."
Lane said its showroom in Las Vegas will be 20,000 square feet. Flexsteel did not disclose the size of its space, but said it will be larger than its San Francisco Mart showroom.
