Arizona sleep shop hits new high in price

Scottsdale, Ariz. — Bedroom Eyes, a high-end bedding retailer based here, is taking bedding price points to a new height.

That's the price of a Vi-Spring Magnificence sleep set, hand-crafted and sold exclusively in North America at Bedroom Eyes.
Roger Magowitz, the retailer's president, expects the bed to sell well.
"When we began selling Vi-Spring products three years ago," he said, "the most popular was a $10,000 set; soon the $15,000 set became the favorite. We expect the Magnificence will soon be the top seller. Even at $20,000, the Magnificence is a value. The ultimate night's sleep is worth any price."
Vi-Spring of Plymouth, England, crafts the luxury sleep sets. The Magnificence represents the pinnacle of the Vi-Spring system, Magowitz said. Its two layers of nested, pocketed springs respond individually to the weight, shape and size of the sleeper. The upholstery fillings, sifted and teased by master craftsmen, incorporate natural horsehair, pure lambs wool, cotton, cashmere and mohair. The mattress border has five rows of hand-done side-stitching to maintain border strength and shape.
The specially constructed box spring contains a foundation of heavy-duty open-coil springs, with a top layer of pocketed springs. The box spring is hand-tufted with woolen tufts. The Magnificence weighs more than 500 pounds.
"Vi-Spring mattresses are literally the finest mattresses in the world, period," said Magowitz. "Vi-Spring has been manufacturing (mattresses) since 1901 and built its reputation on supplying beds for luxury ocean liners, including the Titanic and the Queen Mary, and first-class hotels throughout the world."
The Magnificence is the Rolls Royce of mattresses, according to Magowitz. If the attention to detail isn't enough to describe how luxurious the Magnificence is, consider this: The purchasers receive a personalized metal plaque denoting the bed was made especially for them.
Bedroom Eyes is the exclusive North American retailer of Vi-Spring products and will ship and set up the bed anywhere on the continent. Bedroom Eyes has shipped Vi-Spring sets to as far away as Argentina, China and Canada.
