New design mag targets West

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 13, 2003

A new magazine called Western Interiors and Design has been launched to address architecture and interior design interests of the western United States.

"These 14 states make up the fastest-growing region in the country, and it's the number one market in terms of new housing, in terms of consumer spending on shelter and home furnishings and in terms of overall consumer affluence," said Carol Decker, founder and chief executive officer of the publication. "Readers who live in the West, and even readers outside the West, were very excited about the concept of this magazine. They understand there is a different attitude and approach to architecture and design in the West."

Michael Wollaeger, former executive editor of Architectural Digest, is editor-in-chief of Western Interiors and Design.

"I believe the American West is the most dynamic region in the world today in terms of design and architecture," he said. "I covered as much of that design world as I could at Architectural Digest, but in a magazine with an international scope, I could only scratch the surface."

Western Interiors and Design magazine will be published bi-monthly with the first issue to debut in April. For more information, visit the Web site at www.westernid.com.
