H.P. market renews transportation contract

High Point — The International Home Furnishings Market Authority has renewed its contract with McLaurin Parking Co. to run the market's transportation system at the April and October markets.
The Raleigh, N.C.-based company will continue to operate the market's entire shuttle system, which includes routes from scores of area hotels, shuttles to satellite parking lots in High Point, shuttles to several showrooms outside downtown High Point, and routes in the downtown area.
Market Authority President Judy Mendenhall said the new contract is worth $792,000, some $93,000 less than McLaurin was paid to operate the system in 2002. She said the cost went down largely because the company won't have to spend as much time setting up the system prior to market.
McLaurin overhauled the market's former shuttle system for the April 2002 show, which required hundreds of hours of meetings and telephone calls.
