Global speeds shipping with Houston facility
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, September 10, 2007
Houston — Case goods and upholstery importer Global Furniture USA is opening a warehouse here to serve dealers in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and New Mexico.
The 40,000-square-foot operation began shipping Sept. 1.
CEO Alex Vaysman said shipping times to customers in those states will be cut to as little as three days. Until now, those states were served from the company's 148,000-square-foot East Brunswick, N.J., distribution center, and orders took as long as three weeks to deliver.
"It will definitely serve our current accounts, but at the same time we can open it to others as well," Vaysman said. "We will definitely get stronger in the area by having a warehouse there."
The leased facility will be run by business partners Mark Shreyberg and Ahmed E. Zarroug. It will have eight docks and a full racking system, and will hold as much as $1.5 million worth of furniture at wholesale.
The new facility will free up the East Brunswick distribution center to focus on customers in the Northeast and Midwest, and as far south as Georgia. Global's 80,000- square-foot Miami distribution center mainly handles Florida accounts.
