Pembrook Chair closing

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 11, 2008

Pembrook Chair Corp. has announced that it is closing after 29 years of business, and fellow upholstery manufacturer Southern Furniture will now produce the Pembrook line.

Southern will market products under the Pembrook brand, and sales and merchandising functions will remain separate from Southern, according to Mike Delgatti, executive vice president, sales and marketing, for Southern.

Delgatti said the Pembrook brand's shift to Southern was "a strategic decision that will result in significant growth for both companies."

Pembrook President Joe Kaylor said the decision to close resulted from the softness of furniture retail sales and the effect of imports. The company said it employed 110 people and that it expects that Southern's move to take over the line will create jobs for many former Pembrook employees.
