GRAHAM, N.C. — A Canadian company is moving its operations to North Carolina because of the Canadian currency’s rising exchange rate against the U.S. dollar, the Burlington, N.C., Times-News reported on its Web site, www.thetimesnews.com.
Spiro Laousis, owner of Sleep Line Bedding and Southern Comfort Upholstery, said he expects the factory to be up and running by mid-May. Laousis expects to open with 10 employees and expand to 30 in the next six to eight months, the paper said.
Laousis said he has already moved production equipment to the new location, which he bought about five years ago to use as a warehouse. Graham is about 40 miles west of High Point.
The paper said Sleep Line and Southern Comfort sells through several retailers, including the Laousis-owned Casa Furniture in the Washington, D.C. area, which caters to the Hispanic and inner-city markets.
