Buena Park, Calif. — Case goods and upholstery manufacturer Fairmont Designs has donated $500,000 to provide relief to the victims of the May 12 earthquake in central China.
Fairmont, whose parent company has 2.5 million square feet of manufacturing space in China, said the disaster "hits particularly close to home." The 7.9-magnitude quake killed at least 50,000 people and left 5 million homeless.
Fairmont officials said the donation is "a collaborative, company-wide effort from the chairman, shareholders and employees of Fairmont Designs." The money will go to an organization that intends to rebuild school buildings so that they meet safety standards, and also for emergency food, water and shelter.
