WithIt announces WOW nominees

Twelve people are nominated for WithIt's 2008 WOW Awards, which will be presented at a dinner ceremony during the group's Education Conference, set for Aug. 12-14 in Charlotte, N.C.

The annual awards recognize business leaders nominated by their peers who have contributed to the success of the home furnishings industries, have at least five years of industry experience, and have demonstrated significant impact on their companies, the industry, or both.

WithIt (Women in the Home Industries Today) has presented the honors since 2000. The award categories are:

  • Legacy Award, for a woman of achievement who has made significant lifetime contributions to the home furnishings industry. Nominees are Peggy Burns, vice president, Circle Furniture, Acton, Mass.; Emily Kiker Morrow, director of color, style and design, Shaw Inds.; and Dianne Ray, owner, Garden City Furniture, Garden City Beach, S.C.

  • Mentoring Award, for an executive or organization that has fostered advocacy, development or promotion of women in their company. Nominees are Mary Frye, president, Home Furnishings Independents Assn.; Claire Goldhagen, upholstery merchandise manager, Robb & Stucky, Fort Myers, Fla.; and Ed Tashjian, vice president of marketing, Century Furniture.

  • Education Award, for an executive or company that has developed programs to educate associates, retailers or consumers about home furnishings. Nominees are Kim Green, director of sales training, Drexel Heritage; Joanne Pier, industry consultant; and Jackie Hirschhaut, vice president of public relations and marketing, American Home Furnishings Alliance.

  • Future Leader Award, for a woman under 40 who has demonstrated outstanding achievement and the potential to become an industry leader. Nominees are Christy DiFoggio, president, Genre Brand Communications; Ricki Stark, director of retailer relations, Profitsystems; and Mary Leigh Wallace, vice president, RLF Communications.
