MONCURE, N.C. — Uniboard Canada, a producer of particleboard and other wood products for furniture and flooring, has purchased ATC Panel's facility here.
The North Carolina facility employs nearly 160 people and produces 156 million square feet of particleboard and thermofused melamine board annually. It will now operate as Uniboard USA, extending Uniboard Canada's market position in the South and Midwest.
Uniboard said it plans to invest more than $120 million in the coming year in the plant, installing a medium-density and high-density fiberboard (MDF/HDF) line. As part of the expansion, it plans to add about 100 workers over the next three years.
“This is a significant step in Uniboard's strategic plan to strengthen our leadership in engineered wood panels in eastern North America and become the supplier of choice with our customers,” said James Hogg, president and CEO of Uniboard Canada, based near Montreal. “Our new, optimally located service point is not only capable of offering raw particleboard but more importantly we will be able to supply furniture makers, kitchen cabinet, store fixture and distribution channels with Uniboard's thermofused melamine product offering.”
